    Rift is now F2P

    June 14, 2013 by Grintal

Looks like Rift is now f2p, as of june 13th. There has been a tone of changes with this major update. A few that I like is the 2 extra bag slots I can have, as well as you can now train in ALL of the crafts on a toon. I was also able to get a few of the world event mounts and pets with the new currency that I wasn't able to get durint the events. You can see a more detailed list of changes on the Patch Notes page.

It looks like there is a ton of new players checking out the game. There is even a queu for my home server (Deepwood) most of the time. And that means there is lots of players in the beginning zones and some lag everywhere.

I would also like to welcome all the new players to the wiki here. Thanks for checking things out.

Rift: Storm Legion is the first formal expansive for the MMO Rift: Planes of Telara. Trion Worlds have released several free content additions throughout the game's history, Storm Legion marks the very first time for a formal expansion release. The release is quite a doozy in itself, offering several new features, additions, and areas for subscribers to enjoy.

Before the release of Storm Legion, Rift's free content additions included three 20-man raids, four 10-man raids known as slivers, two 5-man dungeons, and four 1 to 2 player dungeons called chronicles. They also created a handful of Master mode 5-man dungeons. These are a step above Expert mode dungeons in difficulty that reward players Tier 1 raid loot. On the PvP front Trion added a Warfront, added additional play styles to existing warfronts, and changed up the game lore a bit to support a 3 faction PvP mode.

Trion Worlds have already set immensely high expectations for the price of their content, and Storm Legion would have to…

The first true expansion to the massively multiplayer online role-playing game, Rift, has been released. The expansion, entitled Rift: Storm Legion The game has seen a large amount of content addition already, but Storm Legion is where a huge amount of new content has been added. Old and new players alike will experience even more in the world of Telara. What are a few of these exciting editions to this expansive game? Let's take a look at a few things you need to know.

Storm Legion has more than TRIPLE the size of the in-game world of Telara. Two entire continents have been added, Dusken and Brevane. Nestled between these two large land masses is the smaller city of Tempest Bay. Tempest Bay is the shared city that serves as the new hub for both Guardians and Defiant. While both factions are usually at each other's throats, both have determined that Crucia's threat to Talara is grave enough to set aside their differences.

Four new souls have been added, one per calling. These souls, Har…

    September 2, 2012 by Grintal

Recently this Wiki went over 6,000 Articles. GREAT JOB EVERYONE!! Also we got upgraded to the new wiki format. That has made it so the amount of articles pages doesn't update, but hopefully that will be fixed soon. Keep up the work everyone. And as always, if there is something you want to see more of on this wiki, just let me know and I will work to add more of that type of content.

Just got home a bit ago and checked out the vid on the new mage soul, The Harbinger. You can watch it here http://www.twitch.tv/mmorpgcom/b/328157910.

Looks like the new expac is centered around more melee options and now even mages get some beat down ability. My caster might like to get to do some damage when they hit the mobs. Also the added 10 levels will gain you 10 more soul points to spend in the soul trees. The ranged melee ability they showed looked cool.

    May 8, 2012 by Grintal

Woot!!! Grintal worked hard and finished the Fishing page this weekend! All that is really left to add is any recipes that are dropped or earned from dungeons or something like that. With any luck I might feel motivated enough to work on the Survival page.

Also, we went over the 5,000 PAGE mark recently with the help of paulie and a few you others. As always let me knoiw if there is something YOU would like to see more of. This helps me know where to focus my time in adding content to this wiki to make it better for everyone.

    1.8 Infernal Dawn

    May 5, 2012 by Grintal

Lets start with Grintal is no longer an EQ2 raider. That frees up a bunch of hours to post stuff like this in a more timely manner. I know alot of you have been checking out all the new additions to the game, like Ember Isle instant adventure. It also seems like everyone has at least tried the new Fishing and Survival crafts. I have been busy working on the Fishing page this week while fighting off a cold, so with luck I should have most of the work done this weekend. Also I would like to hear from you on which parts of this wiki you would like to see more of, just post me a message on my page. As always have fun playing the game, and kill some stuff for me. See you in-game!

1.7: Carnival of the Ascended got into full swing yesterday with the addition of quests and games and such. Lots more stuff you can get with your Glass Beads. It also looks like you can get all the quests in Meridian or out in Fortune's Shore in the Shimmersand zone. There might be other locations as well, those we just the ones I had a chance to check out. I can't wait to see how much stuff they add for the other phases of the celebration!!!!

    1.7 has some cool stuff

    February 11, 2012 by Grintal

Now that I have had a chance to look at some of the latest update goodies, most of them are pretty nice. They added a new section to the Planar Attunements, the Attunement of War. Now all the PvP'ers have a place to spend those Attunement Points and make it even easier to kill me when I go to the warfronts. Also there was a big gear revamp for all the level 45+ gear (lots of gear pages need to be updated now =( at least you get more stats to make it worthwhile) They also added some premade soul options for us noobs who want to try out a class without spending a couple hours researching the options and figuring everything out for ouselves. Thats right, I'm a slacker. Thanks Trion for helping me be lazy!! There is plenty of other stuff added to, like a new chronicle, weddings, dungeon tier revamps, and lots more.

    From the Embers (Update 1.6)

    November 18, 2011 by Grintal

Update 1.6 went live Wednesday 11-16. That was a BIG update. Plenty of cool stuff was added. You can now open up the second tier of the Planar Attunements. And when you do, you can travel to the NEW ZONE, EMBER ISLE. I haven't gotten there yet, but some of my guildies tell me its pretty cool. They also added a raid zone there for all you raiders. Thanks go out to everyone who visits the site. And if there is some content you would like to see added here, just leave a comment on my user page.

    Fashion

    November 2, 2011 by Grintal

Many thanks go to Grintalcast and Grintalblade for being Wiki's new top models. Due to their efforts we are now adding images that show what items look like when they are equiped. Grintalcast is hadling most of the weapons and doing the photos for the armor so you can see what they look like on a male. While Grintalblade is doing the photoshoots so you can see what the armor pieces look like on a female character. Hopefully over the next couple weeks we can add quite a few images and have displays for most of the items.

    Release of 1.5

    October 1, 2011 by Grintal

The lastest update, 1.5 was released this week, and it add alot of stuff. you can now earn XP after level 50, also Planar Attunement (similar to EQ2's AA system), and a whole ton of other smaller changes. Rift seems to be keeping those developers busy, with new content just about every week, and big events every 4-8 weeks. All this stuff keep me a busy guy.

Just announced! In patch 1.3 coming "early this summer", players will be allowed to transfer their characters to select servers within their territory once per week FREE. Some facts we know about this service are:

    • All your items go with you
    • Guild Leaders can transfer and the guild rank and such go as well
    • You can transfer once every 7 days, free of charge

This sounds very exciting on the surface but raises several questions. What if I am in a guild, and I don't want to transfer, and the guild leader transfers? What if the whole guild doesn't want to go, but the guild leader does. Does this leave us all out of luck as the GL takes all the level/perks etc with them?

We know people will find a way to abuse anything, and so I can only imagine the ways in which people will find to miss use something like this. I am personally very excited as I have friends on other servers I would loveto come play with me on my server.

    What do you think?

With all the crazy talk about the end of the world coming today, May 21, 2011, I am seriously wondering if the folks at Trion will jump on the bandwagon and give us an EOW event in Rift. If so, I can imagine every zone in the game having full on invasion with not 1, but ALL raid bosses stomping around at once.

    How cool would that be?!

Since I started playing Rift, I said repeatedly, one of the only things I missed about "the game that shall not be named" was the Dungeon Finder. That was awesome. You Q'd you got a group, you got to do dungeons you may never of done (over and over!) and you got loot, coin and exp.

When Trion announced they were releasing their own LFG tool I was giddy. I prepared for my soon to com endless dungeon runs by stocking up on hot pockets, Starbucks coffee (cuz I'm a snob like that) and a whole playlist on iTunes. I was set. The patch came... I logged in and triumphantly I Q'd myself as a healer and sat poised, ready to click ENTER on the group invite I was positive would come right away.

After about two minutes, I realized it wasn't going to come right away. No problem! I have some crafting to do anyway. 20 minutes.... an hour.... three hours... My hot pockets were cold and my playlist was getting ready to restart. It was horrible! Like getting stood up for a date or something!

    Dejectedly I t…

Beta 7 - Servers go Boom

February 16, 2011 by Chel Ramsey

The servers crashed about 6-7 hours into Beta 7 today. Ironically, the forums are also down so its assumed they are connected. Trion has posted this statement to their official Facebook page:

Hi everyone! We know that many of you are concerned about the unexpected outage. We're looking into the issues that caused servers to go down and hope to use what we find to make a better launch day! Also, we'd like to reassure you that none of your characters have been deleted -- they are intact and we hope to reunite them with you shortly. We'll be posting updates as things change. Thanks ^Zann

    Posting on the RIFT Forums

    February 15, 2011 by Drudenfusz

The forums on the official RIFT website have changed. Now only player who pre-ordered the game can post there. A decision that I think is too early, it prevents those who try out RIFT in the open beta from asking questions.

The RIFT beta continues this weekend with the next beta event, Planar War, which is set to begin Friday, Feb. 4, 2011 at 10:00 AM PST (18:00 GMT), and run through 10:00 AM (18:00 GMT) on Monday, Feb. 7, 2011.

    RIFT Stress Test

Saturday, Feb 5, 2011,12:00 PM – 2:00PM PST We’ve had heaps of players in the RIFT beta, and we’re really proud of how the shards are holding up. We think they can handle pretty much whatever we throw at them... so let’s throw more stuff! We’re hosting a special “Bring Down the House” event this Saturday to see just how much they can handle. The proverbial gauntlet has been thrown down and to make it worth your while, we’ll be giving away 100 In-Game Prize Packs, and an Nvidia GTX 460 video card. All you have to do is play for the duration of the event.

Bring it. We dare you. Because seriously, the riftspawn were saying some pretty rude things about all your moms.

So its day 2. I had a lot of work today, ah the drawbacks of this grown up stuff, so I didn't get to play for hours or anything. I did get to play long enough to learn a few things that you may or may not also know!

    • There is world travel in the way of Portalcus
    • There is a banker in Meridian
    • You can also turn in Category:Collections in Meridian
    • You can buy mounts in Meridian
    • Clerics do really well in PvP!
    • Mages are squishy.

There were much fewer rift events today and much less lag, in fact none at all. The server is down at the moment for half an hour while they patch. I am more and more excited about this game. It's going to be just the fun, unique yet familiar setting that I have been looking for.

Some background ;) My cleric is level 7 as of now, defiant, Kelari. I am playing on PvE-RP Sunrest server. I am going to get used to the game again, and then start taking part in the PvP as that is what this beta is all about. So by level, 10, I should be ready to give this pvp stuff a shot. Keep in mind, I am NOT an avid PvPer!

Was able to log in right at 12pm with 0 problems. Very smooth log in. No lag on the servers. Very populated. Lots of people everywhere, its great!

    10pm

As the night went on, they came on sent a server wide message explaining they were basically stress testing the servers. It was a bit laggy at time and came down a few times but went right back up. Right now, its down as they warned us it would be coming down to patch.

Mostly today I raised my level 7 cleric to level 14. It doesn't take that long to level, but I was working and only playing a bit in between. I did most of my leveling in about 2 hours.

I got into 2 Warfronts, and let me tell you - it was fun. First o…

    What to smash as...

January 25, 2011 by Chel Ramsey

So in considering what to participate with in this beta, I have decided to go with my Cleric since this is PvP testing. I figured there will be a lot of people playing warriors and other Callings so having more healer perspectives is probably a great thing. Also, I know 'healing' the best in any game then tanking. And we all know in PvP tanking is not really effective other than to annoy the crap out of people used to blowing other people up in 2 shots ;)

My cleric is lower level, around 10 I think? Its been so long since I logged in! She is Justicar, Druid, Warden. Will see how that goes for PvP and PvE combined. I have 0 experience in PvP within Rift and no PvP gear. Hopefully my noobish viewpoints on things will be helpful!

So I am totally excited! The beta event starts tomorrow and I am all over it! For those of you that got the invite, there is a patch to download. I highly suggest you get the game patched before hand because the servers will be slammed likely right at open time.

I will be playing as Dejza, Xivory or Zivory on RP-PVP. Be sure to hi :)

So. I got to log into RIFT for the first time today. I have pre-ordered the collector's edition. Gotta have my pets. First off, I think its important for me to say, I am not the type of player that reads every shred of information on a game before I make some calculated decision to play it. In fact, I generally don't read anything. I just log in and start playing and form my opinions on the game play.

I jumped into RIFT and I was immediately giddy over the character creation. There are more races, callings and classes than are listed here on this Wiki, which is something hopefully I can help with. After about three seconds of thinking about it, I chose to go with the defiant faction. I had come to the game with minimal understanding of the races and thought I would choose Bahmi until I saw the Kelari. I chose cleric, cause I am always a healer or a tank. I created my character.. the process was detailed yet not overwhelming. The world has this cyber-punk feeling to me for some reason, …
